A live-in Caregiver is a person (nanny) who provides continuous full-time unsupervised care for children, older adults, or persons with disabilities in a single private household.
Canada faces a shortage of Live-In Caregivers. At the start of this new century, Canada faces significant aging of its population as the proportion of seniors increases more rapidly than other ages. As of 2003, approximately 4.6 million Canadians were aged 65 or older, and this figure is projected to twice over within the next 25 years.
Nowadays, it is recognized that a labor market need exists for live-in caregivers and a shortage of Canadians or permanent residents willing to provide live-in care workers to fill these positions. In response to this need, the Live-in Caregiver Program was established to facilitate the entry to Canada of foreign live-in caregivers.
